April 22, 2021 is Earth Day and the celebrations will continue throughout the month of April. We care about the Earth and we do our part every day to take care of it, including collaborating with brands that act for a better future. Here are some that are doing their part by offering more conscientious packaging and using natural and sustainable ingredients.

Better Packaging

Reducing plastic waste has been everyone’s priority the last few years. Since our oceans are greatly affected by this phenomenon, it is good to know that most of the brands we offer are making an effort in this direction by making a commitment to be responsible for their packaging. Brands such as Biolage, Matrix, KEVIN.MURPHY, PBF, Eleven Australia, amika, R+Co, and AG Hair just to name a few.

Biolage says minimizing plastic is their priority. Since 2015, their bottles have been 95% PCR. Biolage uses the highest amount of recycled plastic possible and continues to research which plastics are used and where they come from. Their sister company, Matrix also does something similar as they use FSC certified cartons, which supports forest management that respects people and nature. They also use 100% post-consumer recycled plastic cups which reduces use of virgin plastic by 23.5 tons per year. Matrix stated: “Our commitment is to minimize our impact on the planet, from our offices to our salon to our consumer’s everyday life. Together we can make an impact. That is why we promise that each new formula launched will be cleaner, each packaging will be optimized in recycled plastic or less plastic, and each time we put merchandising out we should ask if we need it or can we recycle it.”

KEVIN.MURPHY is also taking concrete actions to use the greatest amount of ocean plastic, post-consumer resin (PCR) and the least amount of virgin material in its packaging. Eventually, they aim to offer packaging made of 100% ocean plastic. In the meantime, they continue to explore new methods, new partners, and listen to new ideas to ensure that its packaging leaves the smallest possible footprint for the next generation, in addition to helping to remove plastics from oceans and waterways.

PBF is part of the LifeGate project, which produces and commercializes exclusively Zero Impact® renewable energy. The project consists of supporting people and companies in reducing and compensating their carbon dioxide emissions, contributing to the protection and replanting of forests in Italy and around the world. Their formulas are certified by the most prestigious accredited Italian university institutions, of low environmental impact. The production site can count on a cutting-edge purification plant that treats wastewater and production, laboratory and packaging residues. Thanks to an inverse osmosis plant, the water used in the production of their products is completely demineralized and purified for a better result of the final product. Their bottles are 100% recyclable.

All ELEVEN Australia products are 100% recyclable. Where possible ELEVEN Australia has made steps to help reduce their carbon footprint. They want to take initiative for the years to come with their shampoos, conditioners and styling products that will all be made from a new sustainable material. They also do their best to partner with suppliers who are committed to reducing their environmental impact whenever possible by reducing the use of plastic and water consumption, using biodegradable, recycled or recyclable packaging, and using solar energy.

It’s a new beginning for this brand as it launches its new SUPER GARDEN CBD shampoo and conditioner in a post-consumer resource (PCR) package. PCR helps to reduce virgin plastic consumption—yet another way for R+Co to reduce its footprint on the earth. Keep an eye out for the R+Eco logo as products shift to PCR packaging.

This Canadian company also works hard to be sustainable with the packaging by making sure their bottles are BPA-free and recyclable. If you look on the bottom of the bottle for the recycling symbol, you can determine how it can be recycled in your area.

They reduce their waste and switched their bottles to 90% PCR. Their packaging is 100% recyclable.

Natural and sustainably sourced ingredients

In addition to reducing plastic waste, most of the brands we work with are also careful about what they use in their products by choosing natural and sustainable ingredients.

AG Hair

One of our most natural lines is extremely careful of what they choose as ingredients. Here is how they describe their approach: “At AG, we continuously research and use ingredients in our product line which are both sustainably sourced and environmentally friendly. We have, over the last 30 years, replaced many ingredients in our products as we have discovered better, milder or more natural alternatives. Many of the ingredients we currently use are naturally-derived and over 95% of the ingredients in our product line are either bio or photo degradable.100% natural and sustainably sourced ingredients is our priority as we continuously strive to improve our products and introduce new ones to our line. They are mostly also vegan, not tested on animals free of SALT, PABA, PARABENS, DEA and GLUTEN.
